How do YOU define rich?

richest_13

I recently posted the nominees for America’s Richest People on another site and was surprised to see a follow-up comment from an annoyed reader of the article. It seems she misunderstood the term "rich" as it was being used. I emailed her, she went back and read more on the project and understood that the wealth they were referring to was their richness in terms of what they do for society and what they give back - not financial, not money. She edited her comment. (Thanks Jen.)

I understand where she would misinterpret this article but it really got me to thinking about how often it is that we value wealth and the tangible rather than the true gifts we have or have given. I think Tim Richardson, founder of the project, describes it best as he summarizes it:

"This positive project aims to redefine richness and focus media attention on internal rather than external wealth. After all, Richardson says, "It’s not about how good you are, it’s about what good you do."

Have a good day!
